The four phases of SES hiring

New strategies are required to succeed at every level of the new SES hiring and OPM vetting process, covered in OPM’s new Guide to SES Qualifications and the new style of agency SES Job Opportunity Announcements. Resume Place helps candidates address the requirements at every phase.

01

The 2-page SES resume

ECQ narratives are no longer required, but every 2-page SES resume submitted to OPM must competently address a whole new set of Executive Core Qualifications.

02

Technical Qualifications

To be selected, the resume must also address the TQs specified in the hiring organization’s Job Opportunity Announcement.

03

The agency interview

Candidates undergo a detailed agency interview process, which varies depending on whether the candidate is already SES certified.

04

The QRB structured interview

After agency selection comes a separate structured interview governed by OPM’s new Qualifications Review Board procedures: timed questions, specific response requirements, and a confidentiality agreement.

WHERE TO START

An SES strategist maps the process to your candidacy. By Teams, Zoom, or phone. Based on your needs and questions, the session covers subjects such as:

  • Framing concise accomplishment summaries inside the resume itself, matching OPM’s new format.
  • The new ECQs and their sub-competencies, and fitting the agency’s TQs into the 2-page resume.
  • OPM’s interview process, reconciled with the hiring agency’s own selection process.
  • The CCAR structure from the outset, and what to do with your resume if you are already SES certified.

Have draft ECQs? The three-hour review

Our SES writer reads your draft to determine what will be needed to pass the QRB, then marks it up: the mandatory CCAR format, the evidence of the 28 leadership competencies, active voice, and whether your examples are correct and recent enough.

You get a report on the state of your ECQs with recommendations, plus a quote for any full-service writing needed to finish them for the QRB. Order the three-hour draft review.
