Facilitating Career Development
The National Career Development Association curriculum, taught live over ten weeks. 120 hours of coursework for counselors who advise people on careers and employment, and the credential that recognizes it.

The shape of it
Ten weeks, one credential
The course uses the NCDA curriculum, which standardizes what a career counselor is expected to know. It is built for front-line staff and counselors who coach people on employment and career decisions.
The eleven chapters
Each chapter is taught live by the instructor who owns it, from the Facilitating Career Development Student Manual, revised 4th edition.

Beyond the classes
The coursework around the classroom
The live classes are the spine. The rest of the 120 hours is the work that earns the credential.
Coaching
Time with an instructor on your own practice, not just the material.
Assessments
Both formal and informal instruments, and how to read what they tell you.
Research
Independent work between classes, applied to the population you actually serve.
Class activities
Small-group work, including federal leadership material drawn from the OPM Executive Core Qualifications.
The twelve competencies
The CCSP and GCDF credentials both require mastery of these. The course covers each one, so there is room to build in the areas that are new to you and sharpen the ones you already use every day.
Helping Skills
Be proficient in the basic career facilitating process, including productive interpersonal relationships.
Labor Market Information and Resources
Understand labor market and occupational information and trends, and use current resources.
Assessment
Use both formal and informal career development assessments, matched to the population you serve.
Diverse Populations
Recognize the needs of particular groups and adapt services to meet them.
Ethical and Legal Issues
Follow the NCDA Code of Ethics and know current legislative regulations.
Career Development Models
Understand career development theories and techniques across lifelong development, gender, age, and ethnic background.
Employability Skills
Know job search strategies and placement techniques, especially for specific groups.
Training Clients and Peers
Prepare and develop materials for training programs and presentations.
Program Management and Implementation
Understand career development programs, how they are implemented, and how to work as a liaison.
Promotion and Public Relations
Market and promote career development programs with staff and supervisors.
Technology
Comprehend and use career development computer applications.
Consultation
Accept suggestions for performance improvement from consultants and supervisors.
What the course earns you
Finish the coursework and you can sit for either credential. Both are awarded by the National Career Development Association, not by us.
